President learns about the progress of the Ministry of Energy and Mines
Guatemala City, Nov 23 (AGN).- Monitoring the performance of the Executive’s ministries was the objective of a work session held at the Presidential Palace, between the president Alejandro Giammattei and authorities of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM).
During the meeting, projects related to fuel prices, consultation processes, rural electrification and the Law of Incentives for Electric Mobility were analyzed.
This was a meeting to follow up on the issues and progress of the portfolio. The main theme was to find alternatives to support Guatemalans due to the rise in fuel prices, said the head of the MEM, Alberto Pimentel.
These actions are part of the monitoring that the President gives to the projects of the 14 ministries.

fuels
One of the main topics of the work meeting was to find solutions to support the economy of Guatemalans. This has been affected by the price of fuels, mainly diesel.
Alternatives were sought to mitigate the impact of the increase in fuels, which derives from international variables, but which affect GuatemalansPimentel said.
He also indicated that these actions are analyzed at a work table. In this, several alternatives have been proposed, such as temporary social support, a compensatory measure or seeking the involvement of the State in the bulk purchase of fuels.

Consumer reference prices
The minister also highlighted that the President was informed that a downward trend has currently been reflected in the price of fuels, mainly in the last two weeks.
The good news that we also share with the President is that in the last two weeks there has been a downward trend in fuel, around 80 cents. We expect these to continue to declinehe referred.
Similarly, he mentioned that the MEM has already published the prices of fuel references for the period from November 22 to 28. These can be consulted in the official accounts of this portfolio.

Other themes
During the meeting, the official also reported on the progress made in the consultation processes that have been carried out in the country. Among them is the Escobal mining right. That is why the meeting reviewed and redefined the methodological route to be used.
He also recalled that the procedure began in May 2021 and the Government of Guatemala and the Parliament of the Xinka People of Guatemala participate.

In addition, the advances of the regulation of the Law of Incentives for Electric Mobility, which was promoted and promoted this year, were presented.
Said law was approved through Decree 40-2022 and its main objective is to facilitate and promote the importation, sale and use of electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles and electric transport systems in Guatemala.
Its purpose is to contribute to the diversification of the energy matrix and to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, with which the country shows a clear commitment to care for the environment.
The law also declares of public interest the promotion and use of electric and hydrogen vehicles and electric transport systems to promote investment in infrastructure and production of electric power, efficiency in public and private transport, diversification of the energy matrix and the decarbonization of the vehicle fleet.
