President sends message on International World Heritage Day
Guatemala City, Nov 16 (AGN).- President Alejandro Giammattei sent a message on the commemoration of International World Heritage Day.
The president emphasized Guatemala’s heritage, which has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco).

The dignitary invited people to know the cultural richness of more than 3 thousand years that the country possesses.

Convention
The Unesco indicates that the 1972 World Heritage Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage establishes certain places on earth as a exceptional value belonging to the common heritage of humanity.
In this sense, this 1972 Convention has been ratified by 193 countries. This is part of an international community united in the joint mission of identifying and protecting the most important natural and cultural heritage of our planet.
Finally, Unesco mentions that the world heritage list currently includes a total of 1,121 sites. Of this amount, 869 sites are cultural, 213 natural and 39 mixed, in 167 States parties.
