Carriers will block several points in the country this Monday, November 14

Associations and Guilds of Collective and Heavy Transportation of Guatemala announce a peaceful demonstration for this Monday, November 14. Starting at 6 am, they will block several points on the Inter-American highway, Quetzaltenango and Quiché, so transit through the sector could be complicated.

The actions will be for an indefinite period of time and its purpose is that the authorities of the country address the issues that afflict the population, such as the high cost of the basic food basketfertilizers, medicines, fuel and its derivatives.

This measure will be for an indefinite period of time, until their requests are heard, since they have already requested a dialogue table with President Alejandro Giammattei, but “the lack of political will of the government in not attending to the needs of the people is regretted,” they point out.

Through a letter addressed to the Departmental Governor of Quetzaltenango, the blockades were announced in the following sectors:

  • San Juan Ostuncalco
  • Cajola
  • San Carlos Sija
  • Entrance to Almolonga
  • Entrance to Olintepeque
  • Roundabout the Marimba
  • Entrance to Llano del Pinal
  • Palajunoj Valley
  • Unevenness of Avenida Las Américas
  • Entrance to Cantel
  • Zunil, among other points.

In a communication sent to the town of Totonicapán it is also mentioned that the exit to Quiché will be blocked. If there is no reduction in the prices of the products of the basic basket, fertilizers and fuels, they ask for the resignation of President Alejandro Giammattei.
