what is the reason why explorations are done in the Covid-19 area

The Administration of the La Verbena Cemetery reported that they carry out maintenance work and exploration in the area where the people who died from the coronavirus were buried.

Ingrid Morales, architect in charge of the issue of infrastructure of national cemeteries, explained that they are explorations to trace and define the graves in the 12 sections that comprise the Covid-19 area.

“It is information from the field that we are going to transfer digitally to the general plan of La Verbena Cemetery, to give better information to visitors,” Morales said about the next phase of the work.

The need to trace the spaces of each grave is due to the fact that the rains drag and wash the earth, Morales said.

A user was surprised by the work and said that in his opinion excavations were being carried out, but, according to Morales, it is only maintenance work.

Confusion in La Verbena cemetery

The workers excavated in the second section of the area this Friday, November 11, according to Prensa Libre and Noticiero Guatevisión during a tour.

For the commemoration of All Saints’ Day, on November 1, at least four cases were identified in which people did not locate their relative in the space they expected.

Rafael Chiriz, current administrator of the La Verbena Cemetery, said that it was a mistake and blamed the external gravediggers.
