Congress of the Republic elects Frank Helmuth Bode Fuentes as Comptroller General of Accounts
With 148 votes, the plenary session of the Congress of the Republic elected this Tuesday, November 8, Frank Helmuth Bode Fuentes as Comptroller General of Accounts for the period 2022-2026, replacing Edwin Salazar, reported parliamentary sources.
Bode Fuentes was selected from a list of six candidates for the position: Carlos Humberto Echeverría Guzmán, Adriana Estévez Clavería, Marvin Antonio Berdúo Matzir, Julio Ottoniel Roca Morales and Jorge Luis Maldonado Maldonado.
After the vote, the deputies swore in Bode, since he was in the Congress of the Republic. Now he can take over.
In the grading table, Bode Fuentes was one of the three best qualified, obtaining 81.53 points. He was included in the list of six candidates that was sent to Congress in the fourth round of voting with 16 votes.
The new comptroller replaces Edwin Humberto Salazar Jerez who on October 12 left office by constitutional mandate.
Bode Fuentes has a doctorate in government auditing and accountability and transparency in public management by Galileo University.
He has a master’s degree in government auditing and accountability and transparency in public management from Galileo University; what’s more, He is a public accountant and auditor from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala.
The new Comptroller General of Accounts is an advisor to the Superior Office in the administration of Salazar Jerez. He was external audit manager, Consulting Firm for Sustainable Development and is a professor at the University of San Carlos de Guatemala.
He was also an executive of financial linkage, General Directorate of Administration (DIGA), University of San Carlos de Guatemala, was coordinator of Audit Teams and director of Decentralized and Autonomous Entities of the Comptroller General of Accounts and Administrative and Financial Coordinator of the Project for the Integral Development of Rural Communities, a unit attached to the Executive Coordination Secretariat of the Presidency (SCEP).
