Guatemala Strengthens Actions for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management

Guatemala City, Nov 7 (AGN).- The department of Guatemala advances in strategic planning for comprehensive disaster risk management, as well as in territorial planning as a mechanism for reduce vulnerabilities before various events.

The fourth ordinary meeting of the Territorial Platform for Dialogue on Management for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Metropolitan Region focused on these issues.

Authorities from public institutions, NGOs, private initiative and the academic sector participated in the activity. Also present were representatives of the Directorate for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction Management and the Executive Secretariat of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred).

One of the advances of the meeting was the commitment to seek the training of the personnel of each institution in the aforementioned aspects.

Governor Jorge Luis Gramajo highlighted the importance of strengthening the skills of all sectors to deal with situations that endanger the population.

In addition, during his speech he spoke about the importance of territorial planning.

In context

Territorial dialogue platforms are tools for organizing and mobilizing actions to place disaster risk reduction on the development agenda.

These are spaces in which knowledge can be strengthened and new ones acquired on that subject. In addition, they allow the concentration of ideas and experiences in matters of prevention, preparation, mitigation, response and recovery in case of eventualities.
