“Getting up on the podium and not hearing the Guatemalan anthem was an awkward moment”
The athlete Faberson Bonilla, was received this Monday amid applause and much excitementafter the historic achievement achieved in the World Figure Skating Championship in Argentinawhere he won the bronze medal in the single lap event and the gold medal in the 100 meters.
Bonilla showed his happiness and wore both medals, but at the same time, he did not hide his discomfort for not having been able to represent Guatemala, due to the situation that the sport is going through, derived from the suspension filed by the International Olympic Committee.
“It was a very nice feeling to have won two medals in this sport. It is rarely the time that Guatemala wins in this sport, since Colombia is the strong country. At the moment of going up on the podium and not listening to my anthem, it was somewhat uncomfortable ”, said the neighborhood.
Bonilla, along with the rest of the delegation, used a full black suit, since athletes cannot compete under the colors of the Guatemalan flagsomething that Faberson did not like, but in the end that did not prevent him from using his strength to defeat high-level rivals.
“I felt very bad not being able to represent my flag and I had to compete with a black suit, it was something that did not make me feel good, I hope that everything can be resolved as soon as possible and that the authorities can help so that Izabal has its own track to train”, he indicated.
The athlete will return to training this Tuesday, since he will have to undergo medical and field tests, which will serve for his next participation in some Central Americans.
Similarly, Bonilla will arrive this day in his native Puerto Barrios, where he will receive a special reception for his successful participation in Argentina.
