Guatemala City, Nov 4 (AGN).- The Ministries of the Interior (Mingob) and Foreign Relations (Minex) presented the draft Police Attaché Officeswhich consists in the National Civilian Police (PNC) have representation in accredited diplomatic missions abroad.
According to the Mingob, in this way the criminal investigation and extradition processes will be strengthened, as well as the fight against irregular migration, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
In addition, to regulate these units, the Headquarters of Police Attaché Offices was created, which is located at the Minex headquarters.
The first police attaches are expected to be appointed in the first half of 2022. Currently, regulations are being worked on to regulate the operation of the unit.
The National Civil Police is at the service of the population 24 hours a day throughout the national territory.

Police Attaché Duties
The police attachés will be officers who have at least 15 years of experience in the PNC.
They will also represent the institution before international organizations. Therefore, they must be trained on protocols, culture and lines of action, a process that is in charge of the General Directorate of Protocol and Diplomatic Ceremonial of the Minex.
Similarly, those who make up the Police Attaché Program will receive a diploma in international law and diplomacy.
In addition, those who hold the position will carry out their functions in a period of between 2 and 4 years.
During this period, the elements will prioritize the exchange of experiences with foreign security institutions. This is expected to strengthen international cooperation and reinforce strategies to combat transnational organized crime.
It was also established that the police attachés will advise, on matters of security, the ambassadors or consuls accredited abroad.
