They hold the XXIII International Congress of Maritime Law

Antigua Guatemala, Nov 2 (AGN). – President Alejandro Giammattei participated in the inauguration of the XXIII International Congress of Maritime Law and the XVI Maritime Port Congress.

We welcome the more than 20 countries that will meet to promote opportunities in maritime and port issues, indicated the president.

The Chief Executive pointed out in this special act that the Guatemalan ports remained open despite the entry of the coronavirus pandemic.

The necessary biosecurity measures were always taken without leaving the obligations in the different ports of the country, said.

At the event, the president was accompanied by members of the Government Cabinet. The activity will take place over three days in the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala

This event seeks to bring together strategic, national and international partners that strengthen foreign trade, maritime transport, the port system and related activities.

In this activity, maritime and port work is highlighted, which aims to involve all participants, for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

As a country we seek the technological transformation of our ports. The purpose is the search for greater maritime growth in the country, indicated the Guatemalan dignitary.

In addition, coordination is promoted for the improvement of port infrastructure and the increase in foreign investment.

Experts from Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, among others, are expected to speak at the event.

Legal certainty

On the subject of the legal framework that supports port trends, the creation of several bills has been included, which have been presented to the Congress of the Republic.

The law initiative for the national maritime port system is well advanced, it seeks to create new port facilities, the president pointed out.

In addition, said bill seeks to lay the foundations for a maritime order, to generate more investment in the country.
