Insivumeh announces that Lisa is intensifying to a hurricane

Guatemala City, November 2 (AGN).- The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) reported that Tropical Cyclone Lisa has intensified to a hurricane.

For its part, the institute reported that the location of Hurricane Lisa is 17.2 degrees north latitude and 86.7 degrees west longitude, in addition to sustained winds of 117 kilometers per hour.

Likewise, it has a displacement speed of 23 kilometers per hour and is in the direction of Belize.

From that account, the meteorological phenomenon is approximately 160 kilometers from touching the ground of that country, so it is expected to gradually lose strength.

The authorities even emphasized that when it touches Belizean soil, it can degrade until it becomes a tropical depression.

Weather conditions

On the other hand, the climatic conditions forecast for the country include abundant cloudiness accompanied by drizzles in the northern region, the Caribbean and the Northern Transversal Strip.

All this is linked to the cloud bands that accompany Hurricane Lisa, which favor the current weather conditions.

In that sense, the conditions will spread in the western region, central highlands and eastern valleys in the afternoon for this day.

Therefore, a report of more important accumulations of water is expected in the northern region, the Northern Transversal Strip and the Caribbean. Similarly, in the northern region and the Caribbean, the wind speed could present an increase.

recommendations

Insivumeh and the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) are executing actions to keep the population informed.

In addition, measures have already been reinforced to provide care to the population that could be affected by the rains.

Therefore, they call on civil society to join these efforts and take preventive measures such as preparing the 72-hour backpack, in case a preventive evacuation is needed.
