This is how the bi-championship of the Guatemalan Mardoqueo Vásquez was conceived in the Vuelta a Guatemala
After being suspended for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Tour of Guatemala made its return to the country’s roads and left Guatemalan Mardoqueo Vásquez as the winner.
Vásquez, who was the winner of the 2020 edition, finished at the top of the more than 130 athletes who registered between Guatemalans and foreigners.
Mordecai’s historic feat began to take shape on the first day of competition. In the first stage won by Robinson Chalapud (Colombia), Vásquez always remained within the top 10.
In the second stage, the one won by Franklin Archibold (Panama), Mordoqueo stayed close to the peloton and finished the general classification just 4 seconds behind the momentary leader, who at that time was Chalapud.

It was in the third stage that the native of Totonicapán finally began to give signs about what could be expected of him, he finished only behind Wilmar Pérez and also rose to second place overall.
Mordoqueo took the lead in the fourth stage, which he won after a tough 114 kilometers that ended in Pamezabal, solola and He made an important difference of more than 2 minutes against his pursuers.
From that moment on, no one could move “Super Mardo” from first place. In the fifth stage he entered the top 4 and in the sixth he again gave a blow of authority by winning the 146 kilometers of the route that ended at Cerro El Baúl in Quetzaltenango.
That victory in the sixth stage was what laid the foundations for the title that Mordoqueo celebrated this Tuesday with his team, since he kept the 2-minute lead against Wilmar Pérez in the remaining 4 stages.
