Organizations urge deputies to elect the CGC on merit and not for political reasons
More than twelve organizations They established a position on the integration of the list of applicants for Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC).
Through a statement, entities such as Youth for Guatemala, Cacif, Guatemala Visible Rafael Landivar University, Asíes, Asorema, Episcopal Conference of Guatemala and Fundación Libertad y Desarrollo, among others, they asked the Congress of the Republic to comply with the mandate to elect as soon as possible, as established in article 233 of the Political Constitution.
They also asked that the election be attached to merits of capacity, suitability and honesty contemplated in article 11 of the Magna Carta.
“Deputies are urged to hold an election based on merits of ability, suitability and honesty (…) and not for political reasons that could tarnish the election process,” the document details.
The election process
The head of the CGC was due to take office on October 13 for a period of four years. This election is quite relevant, since the entity will be in charge of extending the settlement, an essential requirement for those seeking to participate in the 2023 electoral process.

At the moment there are two appeals against the integration of the payroll, which were presented by Olga García and Erick Mazariegos, who is assured is the ruling party’s bet.
