The Ecuadorian Steven Haro is the king of the mountain of the Vuelta a Guatemala 2022

No one will be able to move Steven Haro from the top of the Mountain General Classification of the 61st edition of the Tour of Guatemala, even if the native of Imbabura, Ecuador does not add any points in the tenth and final stage on Tuesday.

The Ecuadorian, current Champion of the Tour of Ecuador that took place in 2021, demonstrated his power in the mountains during the Tour of Guatemala and will keep the prize in that category.

Haro, who signed this season for the continental Team Banco Guayaquil after competing in 2020 and 2021 in Spain with the Essax team, where he achieved several stage victories in the Spanish Classics, accumulated 84 points in the mountain prizes throughout 9 stagess of the Vuelta a Guatemala 2022, which makes it the “king” of the mountain, since no other rider will be able to reach it.

The one closest to Haro in the mountain classification is the current general leader and wearer of the yellow sweater Mordecai Vasquezwho is about to sign his two-time Tour of Guatemala championship (after his title won in 2022).

Vásquez accumulates 59 points in the mountains, so he will not be able to catch up, however, the Guatemalan has shown that his priority is another and he will want to finish securing his championship in the 61st edition of the most important cycling event in Guatemala.

Third in the mountain category is Wilmar Pérez with 39 points. Pérez is also the closest to pursue Mardoqueo in the general classification, the Colombian from Cerámicas Castelli is 2 minutes and 21 seconds behind “Súper Mardo”.

The other classification, that of flying goals, has not yet been closed and could have some change. The current leader is Guatemalan Henry Sam with 39 points, followed by Dorian Monterroso with 29 and closely followed by Mexican José Santoyo.
