Governor highlights progress of projects in Sacatepéquez

Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Oct 29 (AGN).- During his visit to Sacatepéquez, President Alejandro Giammattei and Ministers of State explained to the mayors the fulfillment and progress of the projects for the department.

We thank all the mayors for the support they have given us for vaccination, development councils, health. But above all what they have invested in water and sanitationsaid the President.

For the above, he sent congratulations for the development of drainage projects, treatment plants, water and sanitation, which has an impact on improving people’s quality of life.

In addition, the president recalled that Sacatepéquez has prioritized this type of project, which deserves congratulations for the commitment to health.

To follow up on the projection of development works, the president arrived in the town together with representatives of the ministries of:

  • Education (Miniduc)
  • Social Development (Mides)
  • Environment and Natural Resources (MARN)
  • Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA)
  • Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV)
  • Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS)
  • National Defense (Mindef)
  • Work and Social Welfare (Mintrab)

During his visit, as part of the third presidential tour, the president reiterated his commitment to continue working together with local authorities from all departments.

I tell you with great pride that there has not been a month in which the constitutional position has been late. As I have always said, 340 strong municipalities make a strong Guatemala, and our priority is the mayors, the president added.

The projects

During the interventions of each of the officials mentioned the amounts invested by program and number of beneficiaries.

From that account, Claudia Ruíz, head of the Ministry of Education, explained that 814.91 million quetzales were invested in the department.

This amount was used to execute various programs, including school feeding, which as of September 30 registered 43,351 favored students and an amount of 41.67 million quetzals.

During this period, 43 thousand 329 students have also benefited, with an investment of 2.25 million quetzales through the School Supplies program; likewise, to 52 thousand 500 students, with an amount of 7.80 million quetzales, with the Free Education program.

Through the renovation of educational centers during 2022, work has been carried out in 34 buildings, benefiting 13,469 students. The investment is 2.34 million.

In addition, the Mides authorities indicated to the mayors that 5.2 million quetzales have been invested to date and highlighted the execution of the following programs:

• for Social Bonus, 2.9 million quetzales were allocated

• for Middle Scholarship, 1.3 million quetzals

• Superior Scholarship, 74 thousand quetzals

• Artisan Scholarship, 315 thousand 600 quetzals

• Young Protagonists, 105 thousand 395 quetzals

• Fortified food, 127 thousand 193 quetzals

Likewise, through the Social Development Fund (Fodes) 297 thousand 613 quetzales have been executed for different strategies.

Environment

Regarding the environment, the MARN pointed out that 8,772 people have benefited in the department in the 2020-2022 period.

This through cleaning days, elimination of landfills, environmental education and reforestation. For these actions, 117 thousand 967 quetzals have been allocated.

In addition, to carry out these projects, the support of local governments and volunteers was received. It was also emphasized that the waste collected during the cleaning days was transferred to municipal landfills for final disposal.

In relation to the reforestation days, from 2020 to 2022, 57,358 trees were planted in Santiago Sacatepequez, Antigua Guatemala, Ciudad Vieja, Pastores, San Antonio Aguas Calientes.

During the presidential tour, José Ángel López, head of MAGA, stated that the portfolio used 16.42 million quetzales for projects that benefited 51,306 residents.

Among these are the granting of food assistance, food assistance for COVID-19, stipends, agricultural insurance, training and technical assistance, orchards.

In addition, López reported on the Pinpep forestry incentive projects, Probosque forestry incentive and access to land, which benefited 51,306 people.

road projects

Through the CIV it was announced that the investment for the 2020-2022 department is 557.22 million quetzals.

Javier Maldonado, head of the CIV, reported that road network maintenance projects, potholes, pavement, right-of-way cleaning, bridge maintenance, signaling and road network emergency have been prioritized.

Impact actions include:

Civil works overpass Alux in the CA-01 West, San Lucas, Sacatepéquez. This project will allow the best transport locomotion by using an alternate route of 2.5 kilometers.

Highway Route CA-01 Sumpango, Sacatepéquez to El Tejar, Chimaltenango. The project will benefit 65,215 people, with an investment of 55.2 million quetzals.

Replacement of road CA-01 West, section: BIF. RN-10 San Lucas Sacatepéquez, Sacatepéquez – BIF RD-SAC-15, Sumpango.

In addition to these portfolios, others such as MSPAS, Mindef, Mintrab, Culture and Sports and Economy developed projects and programs under their jurisdiction, which meant an investment of more than 460.1 million quetzales.
