Elected last Monday
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak succeeds former Prime Minister Elizabeth Truss.
Sunak was appointed British prime minister last Monday after fellow candidate Penny Mordaunt failed to win enough support to be elected.
In that sense, Sunak was the only candidate who obtained the necessary one hundred votes among the deputies of the British Parliament to present himself as successor to Liz Truss. The prime minister announced her resignation last Thursday, after 45 days in office.
