Erick Mazariegos files amparo after not being included in the final list of CGC candidates
The applicant Erick Mazariegos was not satisfied as he was not included in the payroll final of six applicants to head the Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC) and filed an amparo action.
When the members of the Nomination Commission were about to finish their work day, they were notified of a legal action in the name of Erick Mazariegos, who has been one of the most questioned candidates.
Civil society has singled out Mazariegos for lack of suitability and independencedue to its closeness to the Government of Alejandro Giammattei. The applicant was Deputy Minister of Education and is currently one of the Undersecretaries of the Presidency.
In addition, he was one of the two candidates whose exculpatory evidence was not accepted, since the Commission did not reach the 16 votes required for the accusations against him to be dismissed.
In them, in addition to pointing out his lack of independence before a possible position as comptroller, they indicated that he did not have 10 years of professional experience, one of the essential requirements to apply for the position.
Even the pro-government deputy Cándido Leal, president of the Finance Commission, defended Mazariegos’ experience during an interview, explaining that he can attest to it because they have worked together.
The details of the amparo action were not exposed by the Commission, but some commissioners made it clear that it would have been opportune to choose over the 12 best qualified, as dictated by the cut-off line that they themselves defined.
A second amparo action was also entered by another applicant, Olga Patricia García Hernández, who, when qualified in the grading table, obtained 39.23 points.
