Government decrees increase to state retirees

Guatemala City, Oct 26 (AGN).- The Council of Ministers approved a 10% increase for state retirees, reported the President Alejandro Giammattei in a message to the nation.

I am pleased to inform you that thanks to the healthy and stable macroeconomy of the country, good tax collection management and expense containment policies, we have decided and decreed a 10% increase in the total amount of the beneficiaries of the passive and civil classes of the State, the president explained.

The document was signed and approved at a meeting of the Government Cabinet with the aim of increasing the contribution received by this sector, not less than 300 quetzales. The last increase for pensioners was made in 1999.

According to the president, the increase in pensioners is given as a dignification to those who have served the nation for at least 20 years.

Today, in my government, we have the conditions that allow us to do social justice with you and continue working for the dignity of all State workers, finished.

Government Agreement

This Wednesday, the Executive published Government Agreement 267-2022 in the official gazette, which details the increase and considerations for Guatemalan retirees.

It also establishes that the increase will take effect on Tuesday, November 1.

The agreement also states that the Ministry of Public Finance will be in charge of the budget allocation to comply with the new measure.

Passive Classes Law of the State

In 1988, Congress approved the State Passive Classes Law, which governs pensions for workers or family members of civil State workers.

Article 25 of said law establishes that pensions cannot be less than 774 quetzales or greater than 5 thousand quetzales per month.
