President reiterates commitment to maintain freedom of worship

Guatemala City, Oct 25 (AGN).- The President Alexander Giammattei led this Tuesday the meeting of the multi-religious table, within the framework of the commemoration of the International Day for Religious Freedom.

In his speech, the president thanked the pastor and presidential commissioner for religious freedom, Robín García, for the work he has done in order to maintain freedom of worship in the country.

In addition, he recalled that freedom of worship is not only stipulated in the Political Constitution of the Republicbut also in the faith that each person professes.

During the multi-religious table, the Chief Executive recalled that the work of the table must be focused on resolving situations that may undermine freedom of worship.

He also made a call to the President of the Congress of the Republic, Shirley Rivera, so that Article 36 of the Political Constitution of the Republic is regulated by law. This is so that all citizens have legal force and that no one can restrict any of their beliefs and the faith they profess.

Religious freedom

The defense of life, the defense of the family, the defense of religious freedom and the defense of many of our values ​​are in danger in other parts of the world. However, they must not be put in danger in our country, said President Giammattei.

In that aspect, he recalled that freedom will always mean that unity. He also emphasized that there can be no freedom if there is no unity in the country.

The multi-religious table was held in the Patio de la Vida y la Familia of the National Palace of Culture. Representatives of religious entities in the country participated in the activity.

In this regard, the president recalled that the Guatemala, Light to the Nations monument, located in the Patio de la Vida, should represent the light of the unity of Guatemalans. Likewise, the search for peace, development and justice, prioritizing common values ​​and principles for all citizens.

I celebrate this international day for religious freedom that is commemorated every October 27. But let’s not celebrate every October 27, let’s celebrate every day, ensuring that religious freedom is respected in our country and that no one is persecuted for what they think, say and believe, he pointed out.
