Guatemala City, Oct 22 (AGN).- Venezuelan migrants thanked the attention provided by the Guatemalan authorities, who managed the procedures for the return to their country of origin on a voluntary basis.
The trip was very difficult for us… the Police, the Army and Immigration, we are very grateful to them because they are transporting us to the border, said one of the Venezuelan migrants.
In this sense, the Minister of the Interior, David Napoleón Barrientos, announced that this portfolio will continue to work through its different institutions. This in order to support migrants, ensure their safety and facilitate their return.
The head of the Interior also thanked the work of the Guatemalan Institute of Migration, National Civilian Police (PNC) Y Guatemalan Army.

Support for migrants
At least 125 Venezuelan migrants entered the country and were given assistance in Guatemala after they requested support to return to Venezuela voluntarily.
On this day, 125 safe-conducts were issued to people of Venezuelan nationality who voluntarily return to their country of origin. The coordination is carried out with the Venezuelan embassy in Guatemala, who are issuing travel passes so that people can leave Guatemalan territory, mentioned the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM).
Foreigners entered the country irregularly. Some were in the Central de Mayoreo (Cenma) in zone 12 of the capital.
After requesting help, the migrants were transferred from Cenma to the border of Agua Caliente, Esquipulas, Chiquimula.
Thanks to the people of Guatemala, the Police, the Army, Immigration, who have supported us 100 percent, commented one of the Venezuelans.

In recent days, hundreds of foreign migrants have arrived in Guatemala trying to pass through the country to their final destination, the United States. In this sense, the authorities maintain checkpoints at the borders promoting regular, orderly and safe migration.
Likewise, the Government of Guatemala reinforces strategies to provide assistance to migrants and guarantee the safety of Guatemalans.
