Guatemalan athletes demonstrate in front of the Congress of the Republic after the suspension of the International Olympic Committee
A group of national athletes manifested this Wednesday in front of the Congress of the Republic, after a call by Atletas Unidos x Guate, after the suspension of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
On October 15, the deadline imposed by the IOC to find a solution to the suspension of the statutes was fulfilled and later it made the suspension of the sport of Guatemala official.
The IOC had announced two months ago that if the Constitutional Court (CC) did not lift the sanction on the COG statutes, the country would be suspended from all international participation in the Olympic cycle and athletes have been the big losers.
“The truth is quite sad because well, for a while now it has affected me because I had several competitions in which I could not participate due to the same suspension. They did not let me go to compete, “he said this Wednesday the judoka Jose Ramos.
Ramos, who represented Guatemala in the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, lamented that he is practically out of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.
“I’m almost out of Panamerican Games; my sport is for ranking, I would have to go to competitions to rank”, he added.
