Guatemalan athletes of all ages and from different disciplines went this Wednesday, October 19, to the Congress of the Republic to protest against the suspension of the sport of Guatemala by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
During the demonstration the athletes launched slogans. “Do not steal our dreams of competing,” read a sign held by one of the athletes.
The group, of almost one hundred Guatemalan athletes, attended a call made by the group Atletas Unidos x Guate.
The IOC ratified the indefinite suspension of Guatemala on October 15. According to the letter with which the decision was made official, Guatemalan athletes will not be able to represent the country or compete “under its flag” in the Olympic Games and other international sporting events.
