They hold an extraordinary meeting to deal with irregular migratory flows

Guatemala City, Oct 17 (AGN).- The Government of Guatemala, through various institutions that make up the Care and Protection Council (CAP)held an extraordinary meeting to address new measures to be implemented derived from the irregular migratory flows registered over the weekend.

Guatemala maintains the actions to guarantee regular, orderly, safe, circular and optional migration.

The field action of each of the institutions that make up the CAP to provide dignified and comprehensive care to migrants in transit was discussed, given the increase in irregular migratory flows, considering compliance with the Migration Code, highlights the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM) in an official statement.

Analysis

This meeting highlighted the operations that took place over the weekend, in coordination with the Ministries of National Defense and the Interior.

These actions reiterate the commitment to the population in conditions of human mobility. Likewise, Migration thanks different international organizations that will contribute in the care process of these vulnerable groups, is highlighted in the statement.

Security

Over the weekend, Guatemalan security forces intercepted groups of migrants who entered irregularly.

Likewise, the authorities emphasize that these groups represent a threat to the security and sovereignty of the country, due to non-compliance with the migratory requirements established to remain on Guatemalan soil.

However, the protocols for humanitarian assistance to foreigners were activated, who were later referred to Immigration.

CHAP

The Care and Protection Council (CAP) monitors migratory flows.

The entities that make it up are the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM), which chairs it; Council for Attention to Guatemalan Migrants (Conamigua), and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Social Development, Economy, and Labor and Social Welfare.

In addition, the portfolios of Health, Government and Education, the Attorney General’s Office (PGN); the Human Rights Ombudsman (PDH); the Social Welfare Secretariat (SBS), the SOSEP and the Secretariat against Sexual Violence, Exploitation and Trafficking in Persons (SVET).
