2022-2023 cruise season begins in Guatemala
Guatemala City, Oct 16 (AGN).- This weekend the Guatemalan cruise season 2022-2023which will boost tourism in the country.
The inauguration of the 2022-2023 cruise season was held at the Marina Pez Vela terminal, in Puerto Quetzal, Escuintla.
In addition, said opening was celebrated with the arrival of the Nieuw Amsterdam cruise ship to Guatemala. The event was attended by authorities from the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat).

Boost to tourism
Inguat pointed out, in a statement, that the cruise tourism segment is of the utmost importance for Guatemala.
This is because cruise passengers have a period of between 10 and 14 hours to get to know the country’s natural and cultural destinations.
It was also highlighted that the sector promotes local economic development and those who disembark generate a direct source of income for the tourism value chain.
Some sites of interest for this sector are:
- Antigua Guatemala
- lake atitlan
- coffee and macadamia farms
- Pacaya’s volcano
- Livingstone
- tikal national park
- Iximche archaeological site
Estimates for the season
During the 2022-2023 cruise season, it is estimated that 42 ships will dock in the Pacific and 24 in the Atlantic. In addition, this represents an arrival of approximately 84,000 cruise passengers and 42,000 crew members.
Likewise, Inguat remarked that nine new ships and three new cruise lines will dock during the season, and it is expected that at least six ships will spend the night in Guatemalan ports.
According to Inguat data, in the 2021-2022 cruise season, the arrival of 19,773 passengers was registered. This was equivalent to an economic benefit of 2.12 million dollars.
