Trade unionists call for a march for October 20 in Guatemala
After two years of not taking to the streets due to sanitary restrictions, the working sector called for a demonstration next Thursday, both in the capital city and in the departmental capitals to commemorate Revolution Day.
The trade unionist Adolfo Lacs Palomo reported this Saturday that some 10,000 people are expected to participate in the calls. The march is convened at 8:00 am and as a meeting point will be the Trebol in zone 12, to go and conclude in the Plaza de la Constitución.
The trade unionist said that part of the tour will be through El Trébol, Bolívar Avenue, 18th Street and Paseo Sixth Avenue, and it is expected to conclude at 2:00 p.m. in front of the National Palace of Culture.
Some of the slogans are related to the achievements of the 1944 Revolution, such as Social Security, education, especially federal schools, the creation of the central bank and university autonomy, as well as issues such as the high cost of living and the minimum wage, which are situations that afflict families, said the trade unionist.
official holiday
By law, October 20 Revolution Day is a holiday in Guatemala at the national level for the public and private sectors, which is Thursday of next week
However, it is waiting, if the Government will grant rest on Friday 21 to public sector workers, which has been the characteristic of this administration, whose idea is to promote domestic tourism.
For this, it will have to be confirmed by means of a ministerial agreement, which would have to be published in the following days, as happened with the holiday of September 15 Independence Day, and that a bridge was granted on Friday 16 for the bureaucrats.
The next official holiday in Guatemala is Tuesday, November 1, All Souls’ Day, and many families travel to the province to visit their loved ones.
