Raúl Romero resigns from the position of Minister of Development and says that it is to support Giammattei’s political project
Raúl Romero announced this Friday, October 14, that he resigned from the position of Minister of Social Development, pbecause it will support the political project promoted by President Alejandro Giammattei, although he did not make clear what this initiative is about.
Romero’s resignation at the head of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) will be effective from October 15, he told reporters.
“I feel grateful to have been able to be part of the team of President Alejandro Giammattei (…) We have spoken with the president and he informed them that together with him we made the decision and I submitted my resignation and it has been accepted, because I have new challenges,” said Romero.
He added that “I am convinced of the political project that the president (Giammattei) generated, created and continues to promote and I am committed to that political project, so I have submitted my resignation as of tomorrow, in order to continue supporting this project”.
Romero announced his resignation during the presentation of the program “Bono Familia: Innovation and lessons learned for social protection”, an event of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Romero did not say who replaces them, but he added that he is a person who is part of the Mides and who have the same vision as him.

In May 2021, the name of Raúl Romero became a trend on social networks, due to the publication of a photograph in which, supposedly, the official was accompanied by three half-naked women.
That publication generated a wave of criticism on social networks and conflicting opinions in sectors of Guatemalan society, since the photograph referred to the alleged attendance of the head of Mides together with his closest circle. to an establishment in zone 14 that is attended by “hostesses” and in which liquors are sold.
On that occasion, Romero’s opinion was sought regarding the incident, but the official did not agree to the interviews; nevertheless, in declarations to a local radio he said that it was a montage.
