Canada announces support for population affected by natural disasters
Guatemala City, Oct 14 (AGN).- The Canadian Embassy in Guatemala announced this Friday that support will be provided to families affected by natural disasters in the national territory.
Through an official statement, the embassy indicated that the contribution consists of a financing of 25 million quetzals.
The Government of Canada is pleased to announce the equivalent of 25 million quetzals to mitigate the impact on food security and nutrition of the most vulnerable populations in Guatemala, points to the document.
This includes support for those affected by natural disasters, including the passage of the Julia weather phenomenon.

Food security support
The objective of the financing is to support vulnerable populations that have suffered economic losses and lack access to livelihoods due to natural disasters.
We recognize the impact of natural events and disasters on the most vulnerable populations in Guatemala. With this new funding we hope to help these people have better access to nutritious food and services, was added.
In addition, these funds will be executed by the World Food Program in the period 2022-2023.

financing
Canada announced in June of this year the financing of 1.4 billion quetzals in financing for 2022 and 2023. These funds will be used to meet global food security needs.
Subsequently, a contribution of 2.8 billion quetzales was mentioned for 2022, earmarked for emergency food assistance and nutrition.

other supports
In January 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) received a donation from Canada of 39 million quetzals, equivalent to 6.5 million Canadian dollars.
The amount was allocated to the World Food Program for Guatemalans affected by storms Eta and Iota last year.
The donation was distributed as follows:
- 1.5 million Canadian dollars (9 million quetzals) were allocated to emergency actions
- 5 million Canadian dollars (30 million quetzals) were allocated to support 3 thousand indigenous women in a situation of vulnerability in Alta Verapaz
