Guatemala has not yet recovered from the damage caused by tropical cyclone Julia and The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) monitors the waves from the east that could impact the country starting next weekend, It was reported this Wednesday, October 12, during a press conference.
Wilson García, director of Insivumeh, pointed out that the waves from the east are the phenomenon that they currently monitor after the passage of tropical cyclone Julia.
“We have already passed the ravages left by tropical cyclone Julia; nevertheless, we got the waves from the east approaching the countryGarcia said.
The Insivumeh report foresees that, for Saturday, October 15, the waves from the east will reach national territory.
The waves from the east, according to García, have the peculiarity to bring not only rain, but also humidity in the affected regions.
When asked about the areas that will be impacted by the waves from the east, García indicated that, due to the current conditions the natural phenomenon could affect the departments of the center and south of the country.
“The updates for Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th will give us greater certainty as to whether the waves from the east will remain only in the center and south of the country.“, explained the director of the Insivumeh
He also stressed that there may be a “small” possibility, for some meteorological reason, that the waves from the east move to the north, which could affect areas like Izabal, one of the areas hardest hit by tropical cyclone Julia.

Weather forecast
The weather forecast for the next seven days it will be from a warm and sunny environmentwith few clouds in the morning, partial clouds in the afternoon with scattered rains accompanied by electrical activity.
“For the following days the largest accumulations are expected in the boca costa, Huehuetenango and south of Chiquimula“, points out the Insivumeh.
In relation to October 13, the rain forecast expects the highest accumulated in Huehuetenango, San Marcos and Chiquimula, especially on the border with El Salvador.

The departments that reported the most incidents were Izabal (204) and Alta Verapaz (193).
At least 17 people died after the passage of tropical cyclone Juliawhile 3,419 people were at risk.
In relation to material damage, there were 32 bridges affected, 11 bridges destroyed, 158 roads affected, 7 roads destroyed, and 153 schools affected.
