President highlights assistance work for those affected by rains
Guatemala City, Oct. 10 (AGN).– The president Alexander Giammattei informed the media about the attention that the central government provides at the national level with the passage of tropical cyclone Julia in the country.
I want to inform you that this natural phenomenon entered the country in the early hours of this Monday and we hope that it will be late in the morning or noon of this Tuesday. After its passage, we expect a lot of moistureindicated the ruler.
The President stressed that the actions to address incidents due to the passage of the natural phenomenon Julia began last Thursday with the first meetings in the system of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred).
We had an early warning since Thursday, coordinated with local governments, governors and institutions of the Executivehe referred.

During the interview with La Red, the President held a virtual meeting with the governors of the departments of:
- Huehuetenango, Jorge Juan de Leon
- Peten, Luis Burgos
- Izabal, Byron Solares
The rescue battalion was dispatched to prevent what happened to Eta and Iota. Since Thursday we have been on alert, rescue brigades were sent, food was mobilizedsaid the president.
On behalf of Huehuetenango, Governor Jorge Juan de León reported that they have 28 of 33 affected municipalities in the department.
They have 96 vehicles and 8 trucks to support the population. 169 families have already been evacuated and 4 shelters have been set up.

Izabal
According to the governor of Izabal, Byron Solares, they are already prepared to set up 22 shelters in the department. Of these, 4 are operating in the municipalities of Puerto Barrios, Los Amates, Morales and El Estor.
They already have at least 3,687 sheltered people, who are given shelter and food.
Likewise, aid is coordinated with 400 soldiers from the Guatemalan Army, 8 trucks, 6 boats. In total, 4 municipalities are reported at very high risk and 4 at high risk.
The governor also reported that, with the support of the military forces, he moved to a smaller airway to the capital, because it was electrified after a power pole fell. She was taken to Roosevelt Hospital for care.

Peten
The governor of Petén, Luis Burgos, reported that there are already 3 families sheltered in Poptún, 31 families in Sayaxché and 37 in Melchor de Mencos.
They have 27 vehicles, 7 trucks, 780 people from different institutions, 5 boats, 11 motorcycles and 17 ambulances to assist those affected.
Petén is prepared to set up 23 shelters and be able to distribute 18,000 quintals of food rations to those affected, who are in the emergency operations center (COE).
