flood of rivers
On the other hand, in the Verapaces region, the authorities have reported the growth of the Cahabón River due to tropical depression Julia. This caused the level of the sinkhole and the pools of the Semuc Champey natural monument, located in the region, to overflow.
Therefore, the authorities made the decision to restrict access to the pools until they return to their natural state.
From that account, the National Council of Protected Areas (Conap) reported that this measure is taken in follow-up to the recommendations shared by national and local authorities.

Visit to volcanoes
The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) also made a call to the guides and tourists in charge of ascending and staying in the volcanoes.
The authorities emphasized that the volcanoes of Fuego, Pacaya and Santiaguito are registered as danger areas due to the descent of lahars.
Likewise, they recommended that tourists prepare themselves with the necessary equipment and shelter before starting the trip to a volcano to combat the low temperatures that are recorded in the upper part of the colossi at this time.
Finally, the Inguat made the telephone number 1500 available to tourists for inquiries about destinations and emergency reports in the national territory.
