Guatemala is part of the CEJA board of directors
Guatemala City, Oct 7 (AGN).- Guatemala will be part of the board of directors of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) for the period 2023-2025, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex).
According to the Foreign Ministry, the position will be held by the Guatemalan Cecilia Ilusión Barrios Ortega, who had the support of the member states of the Organization of American States (OAS).
The election was held in Lima, Peru, within the framework of the 52 Period of Sessions of the OAS General Assembly.

Position
In an official statement, the Minex indicated that it promoted a promotional campaign for Guatemala to be part of the organization.
It is the first time that Guatemala occupies an important space, which provides technical assistance to governments, judicial powers, public ministries and other justice institutions, the Minex explained.
Likewise, it was mentioned that some of the functions of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas are:
- prepare technical studies and generate empirical evidence
- facilitate regional cooperation processes
- provide specialized training to operators and decision makers of public policies in the field of justice
The membership placed its trust in the candidacy presented by Guatemala, which demonstrates the good bonds of brotherhood and trust that the country has forged in the multilateral arena, was added.
Experience
The Minex detailed that Barrios Ortega has work experience in the justice sector, since he served as a prosecutor of the Public Ministry Section. She was also a rapporteur for the National Office for the Prevention of Torture.
