Authorities follow up fishing boat stranded in Santa Rosa

Escuintla, Escuintla, Oct 5 (AGN).- As part of a work tour, the President Alejandro Giammattei supervised the work being done on a fishing boat in Santa Rosa. This ran aground in Monterrico, while carrying out fishing tasks on the aforementioned beach in the south of the country.

We are aware of what happened in Monterrico with the fishing boat. We are waiting for the tide to go out to extract the 900 gallons of diesel it has, the ruler pointed out.

He also mentioned that the extraction of fuel is a measure that was adopted to avoid contamination of the environment.

Specialized equipment is being mobilized to extract the fuel, before we try to pull it out when the tide rises because the ship is tilted, added the President.

Inter-institutional support

The president reported that attention to this situation will be in charge of the Ministries of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) and National Defense (Mindef).

According to the Mindef, the running aground of the fishing vessel was reported on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 4. In addition, the report was provided by the Pacific Naval Command, which assigned a special team for this case.
