They present a manual of good practices for social tourism
Guatemala City, Oct 5 (AGN).- The Central American Tourism Integration Secretariat (SITCA) launched the Manual of Good Practices for Social, Solidarity and Sustainable Tourism.
For their part, the authorities reported that the manual presented is a valuable tool to highlight the efforts and success stories of the countries of the region.
In this sense, the document seeks to accompany tourism professionals in carrying out their projects, tourism offers and initiatives.
To do this, it provides guidelines and a complete guide so that these actions focus on responsibility, solidarity and sustainability.

Handbook Details
The document includes projects from each country that makes up the Central American Integration System (SICA), including the Dominican Republic.
Therefore, there are eight successfully executed tourism projects in the countries of said territory.
In this way, it is possible to highlight the relevance of social tourism at the Central American level. This based on the challenge that the region has to ensure compliance with the right to recreation.
Uridici Ortega, representative of the presidency pro tempore of the Central American Tourism Council (CCT), reported that tourism has had considerable growth in recent years. However, today many people have not gone beyond the borders of their countries.
It is essential to create the bases so that these people can travel at least within the country, Ortega stressed.

Exchange of experiences
The launch of the manual took place within the framework of the exchange of experiences and training in social, supportive and sustainable tourism, for the countries that make up SITCA.
From this account, the attendees participated in a workshop on the applications of the social, solidarity and sustainable tourism guidelines.
To do this, the authorities took as an example a Guatemalan model that implements these guidelines in an appropriate manner.
Consequently, this allowed the attendees to have a space for exchange and feedback of experiences according to the work of each country.

Authorities Perspectives
Anayansy Rodríguez, general director of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat), stressed that for Guatemala it is of great importance to host this space for the exchange of experiences.
This allows us to share the significant progress that has been made in social tourism in the region, said Rodríguez.
Above all, he reiterated the importance of tourism for the integral development of people, for which he pointed out that its activities must be directed towards respecting and promoting rights.
In addition to this, Sergio Rodríguez, president for the Americas of the International Social Tourism Organization (ISTO, in English) highlighted the importance of sharing these inspiring good practices of the SICA region.
These are shared as a clear advance towards another tourism, one that focuses people on tourism and puts them at the service of the communities and territories where it is inserted, said the president of the aforementioned organization.
Finally, he reiterated the support and commitment of this international organization with the efforts aligned to strengthen the tourism sector in different countries.
