Guatemala City, Sep 15 (AGN). – After two years of independence celebration activities being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this Thursday the school bands returned to participate in the long-awaited civic school parade.
For this event held in the historic center of the country with a special route in front of the National Palace of Culture, 77 school bands adorn this commemoration of the 201 years of independence.
The parade was inaugurated by the president Alexander Giammattei accompanied by his Government Cabinet and other special guests.
Participants
The sound of drums, lyres, snare drums and bass drums adorned with a salute to the flag during its passage through the sixth avenue of zone 1 of the capital.
These are accompanied by the passage of helicopters and small planes that perform feats in the native sky.
For this special activity, it was coordinated that the colorful school bands parade in order of six blocks.

The Polytechnic School with its squad of spenders, flag escort and cadet companies was in charge of starting this great event.
Later, the students of the San José de los Infantes School for Boys, with a special greeting addressed to the authorities of the Government of Guatemala, were the first to pass in front of the National Palace of Culture with their band of honor.
Bands from the Liceo Mercantil, Jardín de las Rosas Evangelical School, Liceo Guatemala, Central School of Commercial Sciences and the Liceo Montessori also participated in this honor block.
The next block was made up of bands from the following entities:
- Stella de Hernandez School
- Municipality of Santa Catarina Pinula
- Don Bosco Salesian College
- Dreams Latin Band
- San Raymundo Nucleus Music Band
Second block
The second block of this national parade was made up of female bands, which are:
- Santa Inés College of Ladies
- Institute for Misses Bethlehem
- Normal School of Teachers for Infants “Dr. Alfredo Carrillo Ramirez
- National Institute for Central American Ladies (INCA), evening session
- Mater Orphanorum College
- National Institute for Central American Ladies (INCA), morning session
