Chicacao, Suchitepéquez, Sep 30 (AGN).- Some 210 primary school students benefit from the renovation of the Official Urban School for Boys October 20, in Chicacao, Suchitepéquez. The work was delivered by President Alejandro Giammattei to the educational community.
During his speech, the president alluded to the historical legacy of the campus and recalled that it is one of three in which improvements are being made, for the benefit of the municipality.
The works were carried out by the State Building Construction Unit (UCEE), a unit of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV).

About the work
According to the authorities, a comprehensive renovation was carried out, which aimed to modernize the facilities. The establishment was founded in 1956 and it is the first time that it receives an intervention of this type.
The works included the improvement of the metal structure of the roof, replacement of the roof with a thermoacoustic sheet. In addition, paint was applied to the walls and the floors, electrical system and toilets were changed; maintenance was also given to the hydraulic network.
The project’s technical sheet indicates that the investment was 3.5 million quetzales and the work began last January.

Educational quality
The president stressed that one of the main axes of his government is to strengthen educational quality at the national level, which includes the provision of decent spaces for the development of the teaching-learning process.
We have focused, as a Government, on education, because enlightened schools with decent spaces are needed, he said.
He also spoke about another of the support programs, which is benefiting 2.6 million primary and pre-primary students throughout the territory: school feeding.
In this framework, he recalled that next year students from 0 to 4 years old and those who attend the basic level in the official sector campuses. According to him, this will allow coverage to be increased to 3.1 million students throughout the country.

Students, teachers and parents of Chicacao thanked the President for issuing instructions to optimize the educational centers of the municipality. One of them was Luis Ángel Emanuel, a student at the 20 de Octubre school, who highlighted the benefit for children of receiving classes in suitable environments.
