Chicacao, Suchitepéquez, Sep 30 (AGN).- During a work tour carried out by the ruler Alejandro Giammattei in Suchitepéquez, he visited the Centennial Schoolwhich is located in the Real Samuc neighborhood, Chicacao.
This educational center is one of those that renovated the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) as part of the Executive’s initiative to provide decent learning spaces.
Today we are handing over a school that, despite renovation work, represents a new school, since it is totally different from what it was, he explained.
He also recalled that the Government of Guatemala has prioritized the repair of educational establishments throughout the national territory.
The president was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Education, María del Rosario Balcárcel; the head of the CIV, Javier Maldonado, and local authorities.
About the work
This work had an investment of one million 749 thousand 924 quetzales, funds from the Communications portfolio.
The school had no floor, it was dirt. Now with these jobs, more dignified attention is given to students, said the president.
It was also mentioned that the work will benefit 210 primary school students from communities near Chicacao.
The works included changes of roofs, placement of floors and painting in the educational establishment. In addition, the sports field was roofed and the windows were changed.
In this sense, Giammattei stressed that the project will allow students and teachers to have decent spaces to develop the teaching-learning process.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Communications stressed that one of the government’s commitments was fulfilled today: to strengthen education.
The renovation of educational centers is one of the commitments of President Alejandro Giammattei. We are working in coordination with the Ministry of Education, he said.

According to records of the Ministry of Education (Mineduc), the renovations that have been carried out in the last three years have been:
- 2 thousand 10 schools between 2020 and 2021
- 4 thousand 672 scheduled for 2022
During the first two years of President Giammattei’s government, the educational portfolio executed 139.9 million quetzals in repairs to educational centers. However, this year the ministry has an allocation of 328.52 million quetzales to repair at least 4 thousand schools.
In total, in these three years the central government will execute 468.42 million quetzals in the improvement of the country’s schools.
The Government of Guatemala, through the Ministry of Education, reported that in the 2020-2022 period the central government’s goal is to renovate more than 6,682 schools.
