Guatemala City, September 21. (AGN). – This Wednesday the XI Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) was held, which was directed by Foreign Minister Mario Búcaro, representing the government of the president Alexander Giammattei.
The above was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) on its social networks. Búcaro was accompanied by Ambassador Ana Isabel Carrillo, General Director of Multilateral International and Economic Relations of Guatemala.

The topics
During the meeting, consensual decisions were made in favor of the entire membership and the expected achievements during the period of efforts of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers held by Guatemala were presented.
In this sense, Guatemala reaffirmed its commitment to continue working for the institutional strengthening of the ACS.
In this regional space, issues such as health and the cooperation of member countries were also addressed.

Presidency of the ACS
The representative of the Association of Caribbean States congratulated Guatemala for assuming this year the presidency of the Council of Ministers of the organization for the period 2022-2023.
In this sense, the Minex asserted that in said period Guatemala seeks to promote economic and social development and achieve post-pandemic economic recovery. Also, attract investment, encourage tourism and fight against climate change, among other projects.
Its work is focused on four axes:
- cooperation
- blue diary
- economic revival
- migration

About the ACS
The ACS was founded in 1994 and seeks to work in favor of the sustainable development of its members, which currently number 35 countries.
Among them, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, El Salvador, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica and Mexico.
In addition, Nicaragua, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.
Its main areas of work are cooperation and disaster risk reduction. Also, climate change, sustainable tourism, economy and trade, education and culture.
