Agricultural stipends granted to 320 producers of Suchitepéquez
Suchitepéquez, Sep 30 (AGN).- The President Alejandro Giammattei granted agricultural stipends to 325 producers from San Antonio Suchitepéquez, in an act that was held in said municipality.
To help the peasants, 6,327 were benefited in the department (Suchitepéquez) with agricultural stipends. Only in this municipality there were 325, said the governor.
Giammattei pointed out that, through this contribution, the producers will be able to protect the areas they use for their activities.
During his speech, the President also highlighted that the Government executes programs that are aimed at the country’s vulnerable population. In that sense, he recalled that agricultural insurance was also implemented and in recent weeks the number of beneficiaries has increased.
Agricultural insurance had never existed and does not exist in any Central American country. We have already surpassed more than 50,000 peasants, there are several from Suchitepéquez, he added.

stipend program
The stipends that the Executive delivered this Friday are aimed at improving the productivity of Guatemalan farmers.
That is why, as part of the program, a single payment of one thousand quetzales is given to those who have complied with the implementation of soil recovery and conservation practices on their land.
With this it is intended that the beneficiaries buy fertilizers, fungicides or pesticides.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in addition, extension agents from the portfolio provide technical assistance to promote agricultural practices such as infiltration or drainage ditches, dead or living barriers, individual terraces and contour planting or contour lines, among others.
It is intended that with the execution of the program, agricultural production will be strengthened this year and food reserves in 2023.
