Guatemala City, Sep 27 (AGN).- The world tourism day refocuses on the future. Now that the recovery of the sector is underway, and when political and public recognition for the sector is greater than ever, the World Tourism Organization He emphasized the opportunity to rethink how tourism is done.
This means bringing people and the planet to the fore, around a shared vision of a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient sector.
The motto in 2022
The topic rethink tourism aims to inspire debate on rethinking tourism so that it contributes to development. Also through education and employment, and about the impact of tourism on the planet and the opportunities to grow in a more sustainable way.
This day is celebrated so that tourism is recognized as a crucial pillar of development and progress.
That is why in Guatemala on this date the impact of protected areas is highlighted. In addition to contributing to tourism, protected areas are key to safeguarding national biological and cultural diversity.
These areas also provide vital ecosystem goods and services for the development of the country’s communities and economic sectors.
In addition, they protect habitats used by species of flora and fauna, including those with restricted distribution, threatened or in danger of extinction. All these attributes make it possible for protected areas to be important tourist attractions in the country.
The conservation
The implementation of tourist processes consistent with the management and conservation of biological diversity and protected areas can be a sustainable, profitable and safe way of receiving visitors in legally protected spaces.
That is why the National Council of Protected Areas (Conap) promotes and works on tourism that provides alternative economic benefits for the communities surrounding the protected areas.
It is a type of tourism that can be enjoyed, but that can also convey to the visitor the importance of conserving natural resources.
Of the 347 protected areas that make up the Guatemalan System of Protected Areas (Sigap), 65 of these have the conditions to develop tourist activities.
