Guatemala and the United States Dialogue on Fighting Transnational Crime
Guatemala City, Sep 27 (AGN).- Representatives from Guatemala and the United States held a bilateral meeting to discuss strategies to continue the fight against transnational crime.
During the meeting, the challenges and opportunities shared between both countries and the region were addressed.
Likewise, both delegations indicated that actions related to the reduction of irregular migration and human trafficking will be prioritized. Also those that are related to the fight against drug trafficking and gangs.
On behalf of Guatemala, the head of the Ministry of the Interior (Mingob)David Napoleón Barrientos, and the chief of the National Defense General Staff, William López.
Also representing the United States was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Western Hemisphere, Daniel Erickson.

Guatemala Results
According to a Mingob report, from the January 1 to August 31 2 thousand 806 million 454 thousand 175 quetzales had been seized from drug traffickers, in drugs, goods and money.
In that sense, the document details that in that period the following were seized:
- 1,545.25 kilos of cocaine
- 40 kilos of amphetamine
- 51 kilos of methamphetamine
- 66 kilos of crack
- a kilo of ephedrine
- 110 ecstasy pills
- 12 barrels and 14 cans of chemical precursors
To this is added 249 vehicles, an aircraft, 125 firearms, 4,473 ammunition and 114 hoppers, while 5 clandestine laboratories were destroyed.
In addition, it was recalled that the operations to combat transnational crime are carried out by personnel from the Mingob, the Guatemalan Army and the Public Ministry, among others.
